Stone Crest Community Overview
Development of Stone Crest began back in 1990 and continued over the years until as late as 2003. It’s a traditional community surrounded by the natural beauty of the local mountains and foothills.
The Stone Crest community consists of a variety of traditional, single family homes sized from approximately 1,300 to over 3,400 SF. The homes come with 3, 4, 5 or 6 bedrooms, but the most common include 4 or 5. Then, the homes usually have dining areas, and additional rooms such as bonus rooms, family rooms, etc. Some of the larger houses might come with a game room. Many of these homes have swimming pools, hot tubs and as displayed in our video, some have terrific views.
Generally, the newer homes built from 2000 on are situated in the upper portion of the community. The homes built in the 1990’s are usually in the lower portion. It should be noted, the newer homes come with an HOA while the earlier homes do not. Also, there is NO MELLO ROOS here in Stone Crest.
Additional Comments About Stone Crest
As most home buyers in Santa Clarita know, it’s not easy to find nice communities without Mello Roos. It’s even more rare to find homes also without a homeowner’s association. Some folks will be thrilled to know they can buy a nice home in Stone Crest without either an HOA or Mello Roos! Buyers just need to double check the listing descriptions and then VERIFY with your realtor. Basically, the newer homes at or near the top of the community have an HOA and the homes at the lower portion do NOT.
Comparing the housing in Stone Crest with the new housing development in Valencia next to Magic Mountain, the Stone Crest homes are more traditional, with large lots, as opposed to homes with a more contemporary look, but on small lots.
Stone Crest Amenities and Common Areas
There is no community clubhouse, no swimming pools, hot tubs or playgrounds. There are a few small park like areas with park benches, mostly intended for use by dog walkers.
Stone Crest Park is located at the top of the community, but signs are posted indicating the park is ONLY for those belonging to the HOA. However, it’s NOT fenced in and anyone can gain access. Not sure how this is enforced and perhaps it’s not a big deal. In fact, doing a search in Google Maps, the park does not even appear in the results.
The park is quite nice, with nicely developed trails winding through well maintained greenbelts and beautiful shade trees. There are also some covered picnic areas with tables, etc.
Residents do have access to undeveloped trails in the surrounding open area foothills. Keep in mind, these trails are not easy walking or hiking. Anyone can gain access by parking on the street and walking onto the trail. A good place to find a trail is located on the map near Sequoia Rd and Yellowstone Ln.
Schools and Local Conveniences
Schools
Stone Crest is a bit secluded and there are no schools here. Pinetree Community Elementary school is located just down the road and just short drive. Canyon High and Sierra Vista Junior High are approximately 6 miles away.
Convenience Shopping & Dining
There is a shopping center located a couple miles down Soledad Canyon Road at Sand Canyon Plaza. There’s a grocery store, a drive thru coffee spot, a bank and more locations to purchase everyday basics. There are also restaurants such as Denny’s and everyone loves In-N-Out.
Begonias Lane Park
Begonias Lane Park is situated in the neighborhood just next door to Stone Crest. It’s a nicely maintained city park with developed trails, a playground, full basketball court and picnic areas. It’s a peaceful location to relax or take the kids to fly a kite!
Public Transportation
There’s a covered bus stop conveniently located at the base of the community.

Stone Crest Subdivisions
Stone Crest is not a city. It consists of several subdivisions, all grouped together into one area as displayed on the map above. When entering at the bottom of the community, there’s a Stone Crest sign.
Home Differences by Year Built
The primary difference between the newer homes and the older homes is overall size! GENERALLY, the newer homes are approximately sized at 2,500 SF and above while the older homes go from around 2,500 SF and below. There are exceptions, but in most cases this is accurate.
There are a few, very nice 3 + 2 single story homes sized at 1,342 SF, but most homes are 2 stories with 4 or 5 bedrooms. We love that most homes are traditional in nature and have good sized yards. Because there are no community pools or hot tubs, there are more homes with custom built-in swimming pools than not.
Some of the newer Stone Crest homes that were built in 2003 are very large, with over 3,000 SF of space and extensive upgrades. They are amazing and a few 1/2 acre lots can be found here.
Conclusion
If you like the idea of living in a more traditional community with large, traditional homes and good sized yards, take a visit to Stone Crest. We each have our own lifestyle preferences, but some will like the idea of having no HOA. Here in Stone Crest you can have a home with or without. Of course, even if you do own a home with the HOA, other than the private park, there are no amenities.
